Expanding from Europe to Asia, Russia has a lifetime of travel opportunities to offer. Although, a number of tourists head to natural wonders like Lake Baikal, and the Altai mountains; there are still some places that even the Russian's haven't heard of that are really worth visiting.

Tikhaya Bay

Hooker Island, Russia

On the eastern coast of Sakhalin island, the Tikaya Bay live up to its name that means quite, and this place is as peaceful as it is unusually beautiful. The bay is named after the Russian explorer Ivan Fedorovich Kruzenshtern. The Tikhaya Bay is not marked in most of the maps that help in explaining the untouched beauty and the lack of tourist footfall at the place. Protected from the cold winds by picturesque Zhdanko Ridge, the bay attracts visitors with its sandy shores, exotic plant life, and spectacular rocks and cliffs.

Mendeleev Volcano

Kuril Islands, Russia

Mendeleev is a tall 886-meter active volcano on the Kunashir Island, situated at the southernmost of Kuril Islands. The locals affectionately call it sleeping beauty for its similarity to a sleeping figure, and as the last, this volcano woke up was in 1880. The hills of the volcano are covered with dense coniferous-broadleaf forest and are also dotted with hot springs. So, it is suggested to choose footwears wisely when escalating- the soil might be flaming.

Lena Pillars

Natural Rock Formations

The pillars are stretched along the banks of the river Lena. The natural rock formations are evocative of an ancient castle. These pillars are almost 100 meters high and are estimated to be 500,000 years old. In the year 2012, these pillars were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Lake Elton

Volgograd Oblast, Russia

The Lake Elton is the largest salt lake in Russia. As compared to the Dead Sea, Lake Elton has higher concentrations of salts. The lake is located at the Volgograd Oblast, near the Kazakhstan border. The lake has also been a spa resort since 1904, and it is also believed that its water has some exceptional healing properties.

Manpupuner Rock Formations

Komi Republic

These rock formations have been considered as one of the Seven Wonders of Russia. The seven gigantic and abnormally shaped rock formations are located at the District of Troitsko-Pechorsky District, the Troitsko-Pechorsky. These are also considered as the most recognizable landmarks of the Ural Mountains. The pillars were however formed by the natural forces that later gradually destroyed the high mountains that stood there for more than 200 years ago. In the past, this place was exclusively meant for the Mansi people who used to believe that the pillars were Sami giants turned to stone.

Lovozero Tundra

Murmansk Oblast, Russia

The mystical Lovozero Tundra has some of the most significant leftovers of the Sami culture like the 74-meter high rock formation named “Kuiva". While biking and hiking on the path you can also enjoy swimming at the crystal-clear Seydozero Lake. try picking berries and mushrooms, and enjoy the views from the 250-meter high mountain rings.
